Giving Back with Purpose: The Role of CSR at Caspian One
At Caspian One, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme is not an afterthought or a seasonal campaign. It is a consistent, people-led initiative that reflects the company’s values and commitment to making a tangible difference. The programme exists to strengthen internal culture, support the local community, and create a workplace where people feel connected to something larger than their day-to-day responsibilities.
The CSR team is a cross-functional group of volunteers from across the business. It includes individuals from sales, delivery, marketing, operations, and engagement. There is no formal hierarchy. Everyone contributes equally, and the team operates with a shared sense of ownership and purpose.
“The whole purpose was focusing on the ‘we are a team’ aspect,” said Diana Blankson, “How do we contribute to each other’s engagement and enjoyment of working at Caspian One, but also work as a team to contribute to the local community?”
A Practical Approach to Impact
The CSR programme was launched in 2023 with a clear objective: to create structured opportunities for employees to engage with causes that matter. The team began by identifying local charities and community organisations that could benefit from support. Early partnerships included the Bournemouth Food Bank, Julia’s House, and the Steven Bernard Foundation.
These relationships led to the introduction of two paid volunteering days per year for every employee. Staff can use these days to participate in CSR-organised activities or to support causes they care about independently. This flexibility ensures that the programme remains inclusive and relevant to a wide range of interests.
“We started with the Food Bank,” Diana explained. “It was both a humbling experience and a feel-good factor. You learn how integral that food bank is to the whole town.”
Events That Build Culture
The CSR team also plays a key role in shaping the internal culture at Caspian One. Regular events are designed to bring people together, encourage collaboration, and create space for informal connection. These include Thirsty Thursdays, summer and Christmas parties, bake sales, and themed office days.
Stephanie Ross, a member of the CSR team, highlighted the importance of these moments. “Naturally, people grab a drink and go back to their desk,” she said. “But it’s time for everyone to mix with different teams. We can all be siloed at times, and CSR helps break that.”
In the past, the team has also introduced wellbeing-focused initiatives such as yoga sessions, smoothie bars, and financial education workshops. These activities are not just about entertainment. They are designed to support mental and physical health, and to show that the company is invested in the wellbeing of its people.
Fundraising with Intention
In 2025, the CSR team selected For Pete’s Sake as its primary fundraising focus. The response from the business has been enthusiastic and generous. Through a series of creative events, including Dragon Boat racing, hair waxing challenges, and running events, the team has raised over £10,000 to date.
Stephanie emphasised that participation is not limited to those who can take part physically. “Even if you can’t do the run,” she said, “all the sponsorships help. Everyone can contribute in different ways.”
This inclusive approach ensures that the programme remains accessible and that every employee has the opportunity to be involved.
Why CSR Matters at Caspian One
The CSR programme exists to create value beyond commercial outcomes. It is a mechanism for building trust, strengthening relationships, and reinforcing the company’s identity as a people-first organisation.
“It’s so important,” Stephanie said. “We’re all busy with our day-to-day, and we can get lost in the work. CSR helps us give up a little bit of our time to help everyone. Caspian One is all about people after all.”
The programme also contributes to the company’s external reputation. It provides a clear signal to prospective employees that Caspian One is a values-driven business.
How to Get Involved
Participation in CSR is open to everyone. Employees are encouraged to attend events, volunteer their time, suggest new ideas, or simply offer support. The team welcomes input from across the business and is always looking for new ways to engage people.
“We thrive on outside ideas,” Stephanie said. “So we’d welcome any ideas no matter how big or small.”
“We don’t have a set leader in the team,” Diana added. “We are a team, and we all contribute equally.”
That principle, shared responsibility, collective action, and meaningful contribution, sits at the heart of CSR at Caspian One.
Employees are encouraged to reach out to any member of the CSR team, or there is also a dedicated CSR email address (CSR@caspianone.co.uk) for suggestions, questions, or expressions of interest.
